Their project focuses on designing carbon dots for detecting biological analytes related to illness. By functionalizing the surface of the carbon dots, they aim to achieve high specificity and sensitivity in complex biological environments. This research supports the development of simple, fluorescence-based tools for early disease detection.

Their project consists of developing carbon dot–based fluorescent materials for the detection of lanthanum ions, with the goal of creating sustainable and low-cost sensing platforms for rare earth element monitoring. They are also investigating whether lanthanum captured through these systems can be upcycled into functional materials, connecting environmental detection with resource recovery and circular materials design..
